Taughannock Falls
21 October 2004 | filed under Pictures of IthacaThis morning I ventured seven miles northwest of Ithaca to see the falls. Weather was lightly drizzling and cold, but I figured the leaves would be happily bright with the moisture.

Approaching the falls overlook from the parking lot, peeking through the trees:

The morning fog and past couple of days of rainfall contributed some drama. Last time we visited the water flow was about half the volume as in these shots:

The overlook fittingly offers the most complete view of the gorge and falls, but a short drive down the road there’s a path leading to the base of the falls. I was there around 11am which seemed perfect, because nobody else was. So I had a most wonderful walk through the trees toward the falls.

This point in the trail is called Big Bend - the widest part of the falls:

And though I had to fight some mist down at the bottom, it was worth it to see this:

It started to rain heavier, and I passed a few groups of people on the way back to the car. As I drove down the highway back to Ithaca, it was dumping rain, so all worked out perfectly for my fine little adventure.

What beautiful pictures . Must be a great place to meditate and appreciate Mother Nature!!!
Love ya Dad
