The Ithaca Times (Dec 22nd issue), in its Arts & Entertainment section, has a listing of New Year’s Eve events at ‘local hot spots’. In total ten (yes, 10) different venues/events are listed. One of those is in Groton and another is in Cortland, a 25 mile drive from Ithaca. And one event was held last night (at The Haunt). So that narrows the ‘real’ selection to seven (yes, 7).

I couldn’t find the Ringing in 2005 article on their website so here’s a brief rundown of the remaining choices:

- The Ramada Inn has a DJ, bar til 3am & midnight breakfast buffet
- The Common Ground has DJ, dancing & hors d’hoeuvres til 4am
- The Lost Dog Cafe has a band at 9pm, no cover
- Castaways has local bands playing roots music, cover $8
- Bistro Q has a band & female impersonators, late breakfast buffet, $45
- Felicia’s Atomic Lounge is throwing a masquerade party
- Moosewood Restaurant has swing jazz in the early evening

I got a chuckle at the end of the article when the guy who pulled together the listings, Brian Vancampen, writes, “See what we mean? How’s that for a dizzying array of entertainment options?”

I am indeed dizzy.

I have to wonder if Brian is in town this evening, or off in the Big Apple to see swanky Regis make magical history in Times Square now that Dick Clark is recovering from his recent stroke.

We’re headed to Taste of Thai on the Commons for dinner. I was surprised to easily get reservations when I called today, since it is a very popular restaurant with a delectable menu. Someone should inform their marketing, however, that rumor has it Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are on the rocks. All their ads have a nice quote from the pair, who ate there some years ago.

And in other exciting news, we will be launching 2005 with laundered clothes & fresh bedsheets.

And a happy New Year

Let’s hope it’s a good one

Without any fear
