Weekend Drive: More waterfalls!
On Sunday we drove out to Watkins Glen (of NASCAR racing fame), at the south end of Seneca Lake. That’s the next finger over. On the way back to Ithaca we stopped to visit Robert H. Treman State Park.
There were plenty of interesting rural scenes on the drive out, though we didn’t stop for photos. Several big barns and roadside houses with bizarre porch ornaments. We did stop at a little bake sale and bought peanut butter chocolate chip cookies for the road, yum!
These are the she-qua-ga falls in Watkins Glen:

There wasn't a whole lot happening in town, and though I don't know the population, it seemed much tinier than Ithaca.

We didn't stay long, and instead drove out to the Treman park for a woodsy hike. People were driving their small cars across this really wet road, which is really a creek:

The falls here run into a large natural pool, fully equipped for swimming in summer. This is the changeroom building:

And this is the view of the falls from above:

Several cabins are on the land, surely to accomodate those raging college camping parties we've seen in the movies. In fact, I think this would make a perfect location for a slasher film a la Friday the 13th. We peeked inside a cabin to see a few cot-style beds and a fridge. All ya need.

It was a gorgeous place for a hike. Rain was coming, so there were few people around. Up on the trail was this marked tree.

Note: I'll keep making these picture posts telling about our adventures with nature but, that's right, for your entertainment there is now an Ithaca Photo Album in the Goodies section if you want to see more and browse all in one place. Let me know what you think, and whether or not the download times are ridiculous.
Happiness!
